General-purpose rutile arc rods for mild steel, in 5 kg boxes. E6013 is the forgiving electrode — it strikes easily, runs in any position and leaves slag that lifts off cleanly, which is why it is what most people should be buying.

• Check before ordering: Keep them dry. Damp rods run badly and leave porosity in the weld; a box left open in a garage over winter is usually spoiled.
