Digging Bar

Digging bars for breaking hard ground, levering rock and sinking post holes. In Maltese ground, where you hit rock at a spade's depth more often than not, a bar is not optional equipment.

• Plain — chisel one end, point the other. The general-purpose bar.
• Bent chisel — the cranked end gives leverage against the ground when you are prising rather than driving.
• Point & chisel — the heaviest of the three, for breaking rather than levering.
